Who cares? Be your own ally, why wait for someone to advocate for you?
What do you think? Answer below!
Lawrence v Texas 539 U.S. 558 (2003) (LandMark Case Law)
A Texas statute making it a crime for two persons of the same sex to engage in certain intimate sexual conduct is found to be unconstitutional as it violates the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment.
Lawrence v. Texas (2003) overturns Bowers v Hardwick (1986). The Bowers opinion upheld the constitutionality of a Georgia sodomy law criminalizing oral and anal sex, in private, between consenting adult homosexuals.
The opinion in the Lawrence case points out that: “to sa

OMG, did this happen? I must say, Obama has been a total washout–worse than Bush, because he says he doesn’t, for example, support torture, and in fact does. Just another bought and paid for whore.
I think it’s a little ironic that such an evil man would have such a good view on something so unpopular.
i think it’s nice that dick loves his daughter… that’s what i think…
Well, aren’t Dick Cheney’s daughter is a lesbian? That’s why he is supporting gay marriage.
I don’t trust word that comes from the mouth of Dick Cheney.
I don’t think about politicians. They are all scum.
Too little too late but then again, whatever. Thanks Dick.
i think its nice, i mean, his daughter is a lesbian.
and cheney, most definately. obama doesn’t even support gay marriage.
off topic: i shook dick cheney’s hand once.
At first glance, this seems unreal, but it illustrates a very interesting fact.
When people get to know LGBT people as family members or friends, they can no longer demonize them as monsters. Very quickly, it becomes impossible to deny them the basic freedoms we all enjoy and want them to have the same happiness in life as everyone else, including the right to marry the person they love.
While Dick Cheney probably did very little over his life to be a good ally of the LGBT community, he simply cannot deny his daughter the same freedom and chance at happiness to which we are all entitled.
Kind of amazing how people start to see things differently once things hit home.
Since everyone seems to stop and listen to whatever comes out of his mouth, I would say “fine” if he means what he says. Lesbian daughter or not, Dick Cheney has pulled many an underhanded stunt while VP, I would take what he says with a big grain of salt. Put real action, positive action, behind the words, or in front first to show he’s for real and then I might hear him.
This is probably because his daughter is a lesbian… but wow! Cheney?! That changes alot!
I find THIS news as detestable as the Yahoo! headline yesterday that quotes him as saying: There’s no proof that Iraq and 9/11 are linked. WTF?!? Why all of a sudden is he trying to get on everybody’s good side? I don’t trust the man any farther than I can throw him…
Cheney makes Darth Vader look like a saint…I don’t trust him regardless of what he’s said…
Well, Dick Cheney would be gettting my vote.
Never liked either one really. The fact that dick Cheney supports gay “marriage” just makes me dislike him even more.
I think it took some courage to do that. It shows an amazing amount of respect and support for his daughter. To be honest with you, I always thought he gave conservatives a bad name, but he managed to gain a lot of my respect with that.
Obama isn’t in support of gay marriage. McCain had a more gay-friendly stance and McCain’s stance wasn’t all that tolerant. Cheney is a better ally. He, after all, supports the LGBT community.
Well, the man’s daughter is a lesbian. He obviously has some experience with this sort of thing.
I personally am quite glad to see an archconservative like Cheney pressuring the Obama administration like this. It’s all only good for us, the way I see it. Quite frankly, I love President Obama and am really impressed with him right now in general. However, he seems without a reasonable leg on which to stand when it comes to his opposition on gay marriage. I’ve heard him in debates, discussions, etc., on this issue–but I just don’t understand how he feels, logically, his current stance is justified. Hopefully he’ll come around. Who knows? If he gets two terms, maybe one of his daughters will come out and make daddy rethink things. : P (Hey, it seems to happen to everyone, even conservatives like Cheney and Keyes, so why not?)
It looks right now like the states are handling things pretty well.
Since when is Dick Cheney gay? And Obama is not opposed to gay marriage, he said he doesn’t believe in it, but he will support it because he believes in equality and human rights, but he also believes that it should be decided on a state level, for whatever reason. Either way, I don’t know if Dick Cheney is really gay, so Obama would be my pick for a better ally of the LGBT community…
Edit: I just googled it, and Dick Cheney is NOT gay, he just simply supports gay marriage but doesn’t believe in it, so I still trust Obama more…I think Cheney is just looking for more support…
dick cheney is just trying to make him self as polar opposite of obama as possible. he argues with EVERYTHING obama says!
I think that its great that Cheney supports gay marriage. Hopefully, other staunch conservatives will see him and realize that all of this anti-gay nonsense is pointless.
Right now, I doubt either of them are decent allies for gay people. There’s been no movement on repealing DADT or DOMA. Obama can nationalize industries like crazy and shoehorn hundreds of billions of dollars in spending bills, but he doesn’t have enough political capital to nix DADT? Please.
Cheney isn’t much of an ally either. You don’t see him really doing anything to further the cause.
truthfully i was completely shocked.
Coming out in support of gay marriage? Um, he didn’t do that.
about time since his daughter is a lesbian
we need a lot more people than just Obama and Cheney on our side to get gay marriage federally recognized. We need the entire senate as well.
cool
Cheney is a closet case. I still think Obama is a stronger supporter and in time will cater to the gay community. Right now he has a lot more to deal with i.e. the economy.
Good for him
no one cares. life goes on.
I am not surprised by Cheney’s statement, since he has been saying the same thing for almost 9 years.
In the October, 2000 Vice-Presidential debate Cheney said that ”people should be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to enter into’.’
In August, 2004 Cheney said “With the respect to the question of relationships, my general view is freedom means freedom for everyone.”
In regards to the better ally of the LGBT community… Cheney’s views on same-sex marriage has not changed in the past 9 years, while Obama appears to have changed his views in the past 1 year by becoming less supportive of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” You can make of that what you will.
Dick is right and a better ally of LGBT’s
but who am I to say Obamer is wrong we are all entitled to our views
Dick Cheney did not come out until his political career was over, and it would not loose him any votes. I don’t believe he cares about anyone; otherwise how could he condone and defend torture?
Obama, for what ever his beliefs may be, is progressive, even handed, and believes in social justice. We will continue to gain ground under his administration.
Gays do not need friends like Dick Cheney; they have enough enemies already.
Wow, I was shocked too when I saw the press conference. I’m happy that he’s finally on our side but he should have done/said that 4 years ago when he actually had influence in the federal government and the senate.
if cheney is supportive of gay marriage i’ll be amazed. cheney was never an ally of the rainbow community. obama only differs on same sex marriage.
