Can we get a nationality from a gay (or lesbian) marriage?

Question by : Can we get a nationality from a gay (or lesbian) marriage?
It is known that in most Western countries, a foreign woman may obtain the nationality of her husband if she stays in his country. It is the same for a foreign man with his Western wife. In Western countries where gay and lesbian marriages are allowed, a foreign man can obtain the nationality of his husband (man) belonging to these countries? Same question for foreign woman marrying another woman in these countries?

If the country has full marriage rights for same-sex weddings, then yes, nationality can be obtained from one.

In the Australian case, you get Permanent Residency after 3 years (?) of cohabitation under the partnership visa. And any resident can apply for citizenship after some time (2-4 years).

Marriages are not recognized in Australia yet.

That is because gay marriage is not accepted as a national law yet. Once the whole nation legalizes gay marriage, then they will begin to start that process. I am thinking it wont be anytime soon, the states are real slow with passing the laws right now, but I see it one day in the future.

Automatic Citizenship through Marriage: Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden

Residency leading eventually to Citizenship through Civil Partnership: Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Finland, United Kingdom
