it is a party for the prospective bride, usually organized by the maid of honor, and gifts are given, the drunken brawl is the batchelor or batchelorette party.

A Bridal Shower is a party given to honor the bride-to-be. It is not a drunken brawl. Most of the time, it is just to wish the bride well and give her gifts for the upcoming event of her marriage. It is NOT like a Men’s night out party at a bar or strip joint at all. Usually, there are no harsh drinks but there may be punch with or without alcohol. Gifts are given and games can be played. Lets keep it that way, girls.

Bridal Shower vary by region in America…I’m from New York…a bridal shower is a party where the females in the bride’s family (and grooms) get together (usually at a restaurant) to have a party. The bride and groom, before the shower make a registry of items that they will need for their new home and that is usually what the guests will buy, they will also give the bride and groom a gift at the wedding (usually monetary)

Alot of times bridal showers have silly games and the ladies watch the bride open the gifts…

In the South, I think it’s more traditional for a shower to be at someone’s house and gifts for the bride, only, are given…registry items are purchased for the weddings

It can be one of the other or both at the same time. It just depends on the crowd.

Traditionally, bridal showers have been an occasion for women to get together to celebrate the bride’s upcoming marriage, usually with some exchanging of gifts and socializing.

But anymore, people have gotten more creative. Some women do a kitchen shower or lingerie party, sex toy party, etc.

Women have also started doing more of a variation on the men’s bachelor party, which is where the bachelorette version of going out and getting drunk comes from.

Hope that helps some. If you’re supposed to plan one or attend one, I would just ask the bride what she envisions in the way of her bridal celebratiion. That should give you a pretty good idea.
